Canada #25iii 3c Brown Red Queen Victoria, 1868-1897 Large Queen Issue, Single Usage on May 1869 Cover From Toronto
A very good business corner card cover franked with the 3c brown red Queen Victoria stamp from the 1868-1897 Large Queen Issue. Sent from C.P Reid & Co, dealers in liquors and cigars, in Toronto to Norwich, on May 20, 1869. The bankstamps indicate that the cover arrived the following day. A nice little piece of Toronto postal history. Several small edge tears, as is normal for this type of envelope. a very good cover. I believe the stamp is on Duckworth paper 8, just based on the smoothness of the paper, its apparent thickness and the clarity of the impression. Unitrade does not list this paper on cover, but lists a VG used single at $150. There is a possibility that it might be Duckworth paper 9, based on my examination of off-cover examples and comparison of the printed surface to what is on this cover. However, that paper is just as scarce as the Duckworth paper 8, and should therefore have at least the same value. Est value $175.
