Lot 479 Lagos #13 1/2d Dull Green & Dark Green Queen Victoria, 1887-1901 De La Rue Bicoloured Keyplate Issue, A VFNH Single Plate 2 Printing, One Of The Last 2 Printings Made Between 1900 and 1901
A VFNH single of the 1/2d dull green & dark green Queen Victoria from the 1887-1901 De La Rue Bicoloured Keyplate Issue plate 2 printing, one of the last 2 printings made between 1900 and 1901. The plate 2 printing can be identified by the gum and the amount of detail visible in the hair and diadem. The gum is smooth and thick, whereas that of the early printings, which are the only other ones that would show the full detail of the hair and diadem, have crackly gum. All the plate 1 printings from the 1890's show very little detail in the hair and diadem due to wear of the plate.
