Lot 430 Canada #391var 5c Deep Emerald & Red Surveying Crew, 1961 Northern Development Issue, 2 VFNH Singles Major Leftward Vignette Shift, NF Ribbed Paper
2 VFNH singles of the 5c deep emerald & red Surveying Crew from the 1961 Northern Development Issue. Major leftward vignette shift, NF ribbed paper. On this issue the red map dotted edges will more or less line up with the edges of the surveying crew, with minor, but laregely unnoticeable shifts being somewhat common. However, moderate shifts in the rightward or leftward direction will show this map being noticably out of alignment. This will result in the red dots either falling well short of the right edge of the surveying crew, or protruding out past it. Also, on the normal stamp, the red extends about 1/2 mm to the left of the "P" or "Postage, and about 1 mm to the right of the "S" of "Postes". The example offered here is a very noticeable shift to the left, so that there is only about 1/4 mm of red to the right of "postes" and about 1.25 mm to the left of "Postage".
Unitrade does not list colour shifts, but our best estimate of the value, based on what similar varieties sell for is $20. The stamps offered here grade 75 as follows:
Centering/Margins: 45/70
Paper Freshness: 5/5
Colour: 5/5
Impression: 5/5
Absence of Visible Paper Flaws: 5/5
Perforations: 10/10
