2 VF Canada Post official FDC's of the 15c-25c multicoloured Trembling Aspen - Sugar Maple from the 1977-1982 Floral & Environment Issue franked with a combination of 3 singles, on DF & LF papers, LF envelopes, unlisted plate varieties which may be tertiary. Both covers have the stamps on the standard papers (DF on the 15c and 25c, and LF on the 20c), and the envelopes are LF. Both show varieties that may be tertiary, and are not listed in any of the specialized catalogues. One cover has the 15c stamp showing white spots on 2 leaves. The other cover has the 25c stamp showing a small dot between the "A" of Canada, to the right of the "A" and the rightmost maple leaf. The DF and LF envelopes appear to be the standard ones for these issues, with the those higher than LF being less common. The fluorescence of the envelopes is an important characteristic that has been ignored by all the catalogues. Why does it matter? Because the envelope is an integral component of the FDC in the same way that a cover would be to a complete booklet, or the cardboard insert would be to a pack of plate blocks. The expectation, and general observation would be that Canada Post would utilize one type of envelope for a particular issue, so that if a different one from the standard type is found, then there is a good chance that it will be scarce, and is therefore, in our opinion collectible.
Chung values these at 5.60 for the basic covers. Our estimate of the value of these covers is $15.
