Lot 392 United States Of America #64b 3c Rose Pink George Washington, 1861-1869 Civil War Issue, A Fair Used Single Scarce Shade, With Clear Bluish Undertone, But Rosier Shade Than Lots 411-413
A fine used single of the 3c rose pink George Washington from the 1861-1869 Civil War Issue scarce shade, with clear bluish undertone, but rosier shade than lots 411-413. This is a very distinct shade, of which we only found two examples in the 200 or so stamps we examined. It still has a clear bluish undertone compared to the more common rose and rose red shades in lot 390, but it has a very slight rose tone to it also - certainly in a way that lot 391 does not. The stamp has a small tear at the lower left side, and a crease above it, which lower the grade significantly.
2016 Scott Specialized values this at $150 for VF. Our estimate of the value, based on the condition offered is $9. The stamp offered here grades 35 as follows:
Centering/Margins: 30/60
Paper Freshness: 4/5
Colour: 5/5
Impression: 5/5
Absence of Visible Paper Flaws: 5/5
Perforations: 0/10
Cancellation: 6/10
