Lot #35 Canada #454epiiT2a 1c Purple Brown, Northern Lights and Dogsled Team, 1967-1973 Centennial Issue, A VF Used Example of the BABN Booklet Stamp on MF Paper in Pair With 6c Showing a G2aR Tagging Error, 3 mm OP-2

A VF used pair of the BABN booklet singles of the 1c purple brown Northern Lights and Dogsled team and 6c black transportation stamps from the 1967-1973 Centennial issue, showing a G2aR tagging error. 3 mm OP-2 tagging. Printed on MF-fl paper that is actually MF bluish under UV, with a low density concentration of MF fibres.

Although Unitrade and Harris list MF paper, in reality there are several variations of this that can be found. The main differences lie in the overall colour and brightness of the paper under UV light, and the second is the concetration of any LF, MF or HF fibres, which make the paper appear brighter than it otherwise be.

The 1c sheet stamps printed by BABN were printed in a number of different shades, depending on which booklets the stamps originate from:

  • Stamps from BK66, 67, 68 and 70 tend to be printed in a reddish chocolate or deep brown.
  • Stamps from the early BK69's with plain covers tend to be printed in shades of purple brown.
  • Stamps from the later BK69's with the cover designs and BK71 tend to be printed in shades of violet brown, much like the colour of the early CBN printings.

The gum used on stamps from BK67 is smooth or crackly dextrine. Stamps from BK70 have a shiny cream PVA and for all others the PVA gum is less shiny and is very white.

Adminware lists this error at $30 for a used pair. The pair offered here grades 84.
