Lot 322 Canada #14 1c Rose, Queen Victoria, 1859-1867 First Cents Issue, Single Usage of Perf. 12 on Undated Folded Letter to Oakville, ON, Marked "Circular", Which it is Not

A fine folded letter sent on letterhead for the Standard Life Assurance Company in Montreal to Oakville, ON sometime after 1864, as it is franked with a single 1c rose, perf. 12. The stamp is tied by a smudgy target cancel. The letter is marked "Circular", which it clearly is not, but this was likely to allow it to qualify for the lower printed matter rate. Unitrade values a fine cover at $100.
