Lot 319 Newfoundland #224bvar 24c Violet Brown Queen Elizabeth I, 1933 Gilbert Issue, A VFNH Regummed Single With Reversed Watermark & Perf 14
A VFNH regummed single of the 24c violet brown Queen Elizabeth I from the 1933 Gilbert Issue with reversed watermark & perf 14. The regumming is a major bummer, as I bought this set from a dealer at CAPEX, as a NH set. But then, as I was lotting it I began to notice the tell tale signs of regumming: perfs that felt sharp in places and gumming that stops just short of the perforation tips on some sides. Of course, I could be mistaken, but I doubt it, since all the values in the set appear the same in this regard. It just goes to show that regumming jobs can be so well done that even other professionals will miss these alterations. Still, they are nice fresh stamps and should have some value as unused.
Unitrade values OG stamps at $65, so for regummed we're valuing them at $30. The stamp offered here grades 84 as follows:
Centering/Margins: 54/70
Paper Freshness: 5/5
Colour: 5/5
Impression: 5/5
Absence of Visible Paper Flaws: 5/5
Perforations: 10/10
