Lot 312 Canada #28i 12.5c Milky Blue Queen Victoria, 1867-1897 Large Queen Issue, A VG Used Single Duckworth Paper 3, With Ottawa Crown Cancel, Jarett Type 853

A VG used single of the 12.5c milky blue Queen Victoria from the 1867-1897 Large Queen Issue Duckworth paper 3, with Ottawa crown cancel, Jarett type 853. Jarett lists crown cancels on three of the values from this issue: the 1/2c, the 12.5c and the 15c. It does not price either the 1/2c or the 12.5c, but does price the 15c at $5 for a clear strike. The bluenose lists in Jarett at 60 cents for mint and the $1 parliament at $1.15. So, the crown cancel on the 15c is worth about 4 times a fine mint parliament dollar, or about $1,000. This is not a particularly clear strike, so my estimate on this is much less, but it is the first Large Queen I have seen with a crown cancel that was not a 15c value, so I know it is rare.

Unitrade values this at $25 for VG used with a normal cancel. Our estimate of the value with the crown cancel is $250. The stamp offered here grades 62 as follows:
