Lot 275 Canada #147 12c Blue Map Of Canada 1927 Confederation Issue, A First Day Cover Franked With Single, Returned As Undeliverable, Cat. Value $20
A first day covers franked with a single. Generally all VF. The cover was sent within Windsor, returned as undeliverable. The cover contains a notice to the incumbrencer of a property that he can redeem a parcel of land that the municipality sold for taxes by paying the outstanding taxes, plus fees and a percentage. The cover was registered, and there are three markings indicating non-delivery "not in directory", "not called for at general delivery" and purple hand "Return to" that points to the return address. It is interesting that the stamp is 3 years out of date on a non-philatelic cover like this. There is one edge tear & some toning around the stamp, but this is a fascinating piece of history from the Great Depression, as a lot of land would have been sold this way, as people couldn't pay either their taxes, or in a lot of cases their creditors. So the municipal authorities would step in and sell, and then give the creditor a chance to buy it if the purchaser couldn't pay. Unitrade catalogue value is $20.
