A Slightly Reduced Fine commercial first day cover of the 2c red SS Caribou from the 1931-1932 Watermarked Publicity Issue with pair used. sent to north sydney, ns at the 4c rate on jan 3, 1931. the day the set was issued. We can tell that this is the watermarked issue by the fact that the engraving shows clear relief, where as the printing on 164's tend to be quite flat. Also the 173's are comb perforated, where as the 164's are both comb and line perforated

Our estimated value is $15.

Perforations on all Newfoundland stamps have been very carefully checked using an Instant perforation gauge, which measures accurately to the nearest .05 of a hole. Unitrade does state the number of perforation heads used by Whitehead and Morris to print the issues from the 1911 Royal Family Issue up to the Publicity Issue, but it would appear from a study of the stamps that a considerable amount of variation in the perforations on the issues printed by them does indeed exist. The later issues printed by Perkins Bacon also exhibit The Walsh and Butte Specialized Newfoundland Catalogue lists these variations, but does not price them, as far as I know. So, we have valued them using the basic Unitrade prices.
