Lot 212 Canada #1156i 2c Porcupine, 1988-1992 Mammal and Architecture Issue, Usage on 3 Overweight International Covers as A Make-Up Stamp, Two to UK and One to Australia, 2 Shortpaid

Three airmail covers sent out in April 1994, one to Australia and two to the UK, all sent at the overweight rate of $1.33. The Australian cover is correctly franked with a booklet strip of three 43c flag Leigh-Mardon printings, perf. 15.5 x 14.6, plus a pair of the 2c porcupine, to make up the rate to $1.33. The other two covers appear to be short 2c, as both have $1.26 of 43c stamps and just 1 2c porcupine. That stamp is damaged on one of the covers. The first of these is franked with a 43c flag Leigh-Mardon booklet printing, and a booklet pair of the 43c Queen, on what would appear to be either Harrison or Peterborough paper. The second cover is franked with a booklet strip of three 43c Queen on what would appear again to be either Harrison or Peterborough paper (1 stamp damaged). Good examples of the 2c Coated Papers printing used as a make-up stamp, if not somewhat out of period, as the 2c strawberry definitive was issued in August 1992. Fine overall. Est. $7.

The Mammal and Architecture definitive issue is the subject of this week's blog post. You are encouraged to go here to find more information about the paper, shade, gum and fluorescence varieties that are described here, that are not in Unitrade. There you will find all of the information that you need in one place. That post will be published by the end of the day on Friday, December 16, 2022.
