Lot 192 Newfoundland #60 3c Slate & Deep Gray Queen Victoria, 1890 Queen Victoria, 2 Very Good Unused & FOG Singles On Various Papers With Unlited 'Flaw On 3' & 'Scar On Face' Varieties
2 very good unused & FOG singles of the 3c slate & deep gray Queen Victoria from the 1890 Queen Victoria on various papers with unlited 'flaw on 3' & 'scar on face' varieties.
The deep gray is unused with a very small wrinkle at UL, but shows the Queen with a prominent flaw on her face. Printed on horizontal wove. The slate is mint OG with a large flaw on the right 3, and printed on vertical wove paper.
Unitrade values these at $25. The stamps offered here grade 60 and 70 as follows:
Centering/Margins: 30/70 & 40/70
Paper Freshness: 5/5
Colour: 5/5
Impression: 5/5
Absence of Visible Paper Flaws: 5/5
Perforations: 10/10
The 3c slate stamp comes in many more shades than what unitrade lists. In addition to slate, you can find slate-grey, slate-blue and bluish slate. There are also grey and deep grey, as well as blue. The colour palatte for this stamp basically mirrors the later printings of the 15c Large Queen. The paper is soft and can be found in both vertical and horizontal wove.
