A VGOG example of the from the 1863-1877 Victor Emmanuell II Surface Printed Issue. An attractive F/VF appearing, but VG mint OG example of this incredibly rare stamp. This appears to be a De La Rue printing, just based on the paper and print clarity, but Scott insists that it is not possible to distinguish Thurin from De La Rue printings on mint examples. This example has two pre-printing creases, the largest of which is visible from the front. We can tell that they are pre-printing creases by the way the cracks in the gum appear under magnification where the gum approaches the crease: the gum appears to flow around the crease, exactly as it could be expected to. The perforations are short in two places, but overall are quite nice, and the stamp is very well centered. 2022 Scott Classic lists a mint OG example of this stamp at $6,500. This is a very presentable spacefiller that doesn't at first glance look like a spacefiller. Net est $400-$500. 2017 Scott cat. $450.
