Lot 174 Canada #611/624 8c-15c Multicoloured Various Designs 1973 Commemmoratives, 12 Rosecraft First Day Covers Franked With Singles, Addressed to Gordon Mash, Engraver Cachets, DF, LF, and MF Paper, Cat. Value $12

A group of 12 Rosecraft First Day Covers franked with singles. Generally all VF. The paper fluorescence of the stamps DF for the PEI issue, LF for the Scottish Settlers Issue and MF for the remainder. All covers are addressed to Gordon and Gregory Mash. Gordon Mash was a Canadian stamp engraver who engraved the lettering on several issues from the 1960's, such as the 1961 Northern Development and Resources for Tomorrow issue, and others. I presume Gregory is his son, as both are to the same address in Ottawa. I tried googling his name, but nothing comes up. His mname does however appear in Unitrade next to the issues whose production he was involved with. Dickinson catalogue value for the basic covers is $12. Our estimate of the value after adding appropriate premiums is $20.

A note about how we calculated Dickinson Catalogue values in conjunction with Unitrade. Dickinson does not list paper varieties on FDC's, nor do they price anything other than a single. FDC's are typically regarded as being similar to mint stamps in the sense that if they are unaddressed, they are still valid for postage. So, that is why the FDC price in Unitrade is typically slightly more than a mint single. That being the case, what we have done where we have a better paper variety on an FDC is we have taken the Dickinson catalogue value and added the mint value of the paper variety to the FDC price. If there is a pair or a block, we have added the Unitrade value of the extra stamps to the Dickinson cover price.
