Lot 147 Canada #C3 6c on 5c Olive Brown Allegory of Flight, 1932 Surcharged Scroll Issue Airmail, A VFNH Example, Streaky Cream Gum With a Semi-Gloss Sheen, Showing Uneven Surcharge Bars at LL
A VFNH example of the 6c on 5c olive brown Allegory of Flight from the 1932 Surcharged Scroll Issue Airmail showing uneven surcharge bars at LL. With streaky cream gum with a semi-gloss sheen. Although not listed specifically by Unitrade, the stamps of this issue exist with two different gum types, as well as subtle shade variations of every value in the set. The gum types found are either a streaky cream gum with a semi-gloss sheen, or a similar type of gum without the streaks. This example shows an interesting variety of the surcharge itself which consists of staggered surcharge bars at the left, which give a step effect. It is not clear whether or not this is constant, though it may be listed in Hans Reiche's book on these issues. Although minor, any variety on these issues is significant, due to how few of them there are. In my opinion this variety is significant, considering that most of these stamps do not show any variation at all.
Unitrade values this at $30, for an example with normal surcharge. There should be at least a small premium for this variety. The stamp offered here grades 75 as follows:
Paper Freshness: 5/5
Absence of Visible Paper Flaws: 5/5
