Lot 146 Canada #C3 6c on 5c Deep Olive Brown Allegory of Flight, 1932 Surcharged Scroll Issue Airmail, A VF Unused Example, Showing Vertical Hairline in Margin at LL
A VF unused example of the 6c on 5c deep olive brown Allegory of Flight from the 1932 Surcharged Scroll Issue Airmail showing vertical hairline in margin at LL. Although not listed specifically by Unitrade, the stamps of this issue exist with two different gum types, as well as subtle shade variations of every value in the set. The gum types found are either a streaky cream gum with a semi-gloss sheen, or a similar type of gum without the streaks. This example shows an interesting variety which consists of a small vertical line in the bottom margin at lower left. It is not clear whether or not this is constant, though it may be listed in Hans Reiche's book on these issues. Although minor, any variety on these issues is significant, due to how few of them there are. In my opinion this variety is somewhat significant, considering that most of these stamps do not show any variation at all.
Unitrade values this at $7.5, for a basic stamp without the plate variety. Plate varieties on this issue are seldom seen, so in our opinion this example should be worth a premium. The stamp offered here grades 80 as follows:
Paper Freshness: 5/5
Absence of Visible Paper Flaws: 5/5
