Lot 135 Canada #566/577 8c Multicoloured Various Designs 1973-1975 Indians of Canada Issue, 11 Schering Drug Company First Day Covers Franked With Singles and UR inscription block, DF, LF and HF Paper, Cat. Value $33

A group of 11 Schering Drug Company First Day Covers franked with singles and ur inscription block. Generally all F/VF. The paper fluorescence of the stamps DF for one 8c Algonkian Couple, and the Pacific Coast Chief/Thunderbird stamps; LF for one Pacific Coast Chief stamp, and HF for all others. The Algonkian couple and Thunderbird stamps are on the better HF paper, and there is a second couple stamp on the normal DF paper. The Pacific Coast Chief is represented by a LF and DF single. Three covers contain the original drug pamphlets and one has writing on the front. Schering Corporation is a Canadian subsidiary of Schering-Plough, which is a giant drug company in the US, which became Merck, which most people know. It had a practice of sending its drug marketing pamphlets to doctors, using first day covers, which sometimes contained stamps as well. For this reason they are generally always addressed. Dickinson/Unitrade catalogue value for the basic covers is $33. Our estimate of the value after adding appropriate premiums is $40.

A note about how we calculated Dickinson Catalogue values in conjunction with Unitrade. Dickinson does not list paper varieties on FDC's, nor do they price anything other than a single. FDC's are typically regarded as being similar to mint stamps in the sense that if they are unaddressed, they are still valid for postage. So, that is why the FDC price in Unitrade is typically slightly more than a mint single. That being the case, what we have done where we have a better paper variety on an FDC is we have taken the Dickinson catalogue value and added the mint value of the paper variety to the FDC price. If there is a pair or a block, we have added the Unitrade value of the extra stamps to the Dickinson cover price.
