Lot 13 Newfoundland #7 6.5d Scarlet Vermillion Crown and Heraldic Flowers, 1857-1860 Pence Issue, A VF Appearing But VG Unused Imperforate Single, Very Rare and Seldom Offered

A VF appearing, but VG unused imperforate single of the 6.5d scarlet vermillion Crown and Heraldic Flowers from the 1857-1860 Pence Issue. This rare stamp has 4 margins, but has been expertly repaired. it is hard to tell for sure, but the stamp appears to have either been torn or severely creased at some point, and the crease or tear has been expertly repaired by filling in on the back wth additional paper pulp to reinforce and hide the seam. Still, a very presentable example of a very rare stamp that is missing from nearly every mint Newfoundland collection.

Unitrade values this stamp witout gum at $3000, so a VG example should be worth approximately half at $1500. The stamp offered here grades 59 as follows:

Centering/Margins: 49/70

Paper Freshness: 10/10

Colour: 10/10

Impression: 5/5

Absence of Visible Paper Flaws: 5/5

Adjustment for mentioned faults: -20 points.
