Lot 129 Canada #184 3c Bright Carmine Red King George V, 1931 Admiral Provisional Issue, A VFNH Example Of The Perf. 12 x 8

A very well centered and VFNH example of the perf. 12 x 8 provisional stamp that was issued in 1931 during a temporary shortage of 3c stamps that occurred when the war tax was re-introduced. Die 2, dry printing, showing the re-drawn frameline at upper right. The existence of this stamp is one of the reasons why the normal perf. 12 die 2 stamps are so scarce: most were unsold when the Scroll issue replaced this issue and when the remainders were reissued, they were perforated in this manner. Still, finding examples with margins this nice and full side perfs is challenging. 2023 Unitrade catalogue value is $36. The stamp offered here grades 84 as follows:

Centering/Margins: 54/70

Colour: 5/5

Impression: 5/5

Absence of Visible Paper Flaws: 5/5

Perforations: 10/10

Paper Freshness: 5/5
