Lot 126 Canada #199iv 5c Dark Blue King George V, 1932 Medallion Issue, A FOG Pair With A Re-touched Bluenose Entry, Pl 2 UL Pos 79
A FOG pair of the 5c dark blue King George V from the 1932 Medallion Issue with a re-touched bluenose entry, pl 2 UL pos 79. This re-entry retouch is difficult to spot because the remnants of the original re-entry have been so well touched out, that what remains requires some experience to see. The first place to look is the back of the head. In the cross hatching you will see a curved line of doubling, that is not present on the normal stamp. Next look at the shading immediately behind the ear. On the retouched stamp it is clearly cross hatched, but on the normal stamp it looks more solid. Now look half way up the beard on the outside edge. You will see a very small spot of colour that is not on the normal stamp. Finally, there is an extra dot of colour at the edge of the moustache that is not on the normal stamp.
Unitrade values this at $56. The pair offered here grades 70 as follows:
Centering/Margins: 40/70
Paper Freshness: 5/5
Colour: 5/5
Impression: 5/5
Absence of Visible Paper Flaws: 5/5
