Lot 11 Prince Edward Island #2 3d Blue on Yellowish Paper, Perf. 9 Single Usage on June 1863 Cover to Reverand John Munro, Free Church, Wallace, NS
A fine cover to Wallace, Nova Scotia, sent from an indeterminate location within PEI to Reverand John Munro, a prominent minister on the island. The stamp does have what appears to be a natural straight edge at right, but is otherwise sound. It is not tied to the cover, but it is enough of a scarce stamp that it is not likely to have been added to this cover, as the more common perf. 11.75 stamps had not been issued until well into 1863, so while it is possible for this to have been placed to replace a cheaper 3d stamp, it is not likely, as that would typically result in some additional cancellation being visible on the cover. It is not uncommon for the markings used to not fully tie the stamps to the cover. Some backflap damage and edge soiling, but still fine. Unitrade cat. for fine $2,000.
