Morocco Agencies Spanish Currency #12 (SG#9d) 5c Green Queen Victoria 1898-1900 Overprinted Gibraltar Keyplate Issue, Type 3 Overprint, Broken M in "Centimos", a Very Fine Used Example
A well centered and very fine used example of the type 3 Morocco Agencies overprint on the 5 centimos green from the 1898-1900 Keyplate issue of Gibraltar. This example shows the constant plate flaw, the broken M in Centimos.
This issue came with three types of overprint:
- Black overprint with the ear of the "g" in agencies projecting upwards.
- Blue-black overprint with the ear of the "g" projecting upwards.
- Black overprint with the ear of the "g" horizontal.
This stamp is the third type (type 3).
Gibbons lists this stamp at 80 pounds (approx. $160) for mint hinged, and is not priced used. However, for all the other plate flaws and varieties of the overprint that are listed on this issue the prices for mint and used are largely the same. Therefore I would estimate the value at $150-$160. . The stamp offered here grades 82 as follows:
Paper freshness: 5/5
Absence of visible paper flaws: 5/5
