Mauritius #70 (SG#103) 2c Dull Green Queen Victoria, 1883-1894 Crown CA Keyplate Issue, A Fine Used Example Showing a Spectacular Freak Printing Flaw
A well centered and lightly cancelled used example of the 2c dull green Queen Victoria stamp from the 1883-1894 Crown CA Keyplate Issue showing the most spectacular printing flaw I have ever seen on a De La Rue Keyplate. A large portion of the design at the Queen's hair and above the EN of Cents is MISSING. I have checked under magnification and with backlighting to make sure this is not just a thin or a surface scuff and can confirm that it is neither of those two things. Includes a second stamp for comparison.
Gibbons does not list this, but given how many of the small constant plate varieties list for several hundred pounds, it is hard not to see this being worth at least $100. The stamps offered here grades between 70 and 73 as follows:
Paper freshness: 4/5
Absence of visible paper flaws: 5/5
