Lot 345 Lagos SG#60 (SC#56) 1/- Dull Green and Black, King Edward VII, 1904-1906 Multiple Crown CA Watermarked Issue, a Very Fine Used Example of the Ordinary Paper, 2022 Scott Calssic Cat. $30 USD

A very well centered and very fine used example of the 1/- dull green and black, King Edward VII De La Rue Keyplate stamp from the 1904-1904 Multiple Crown CA watermarked issue, on ordinary paper. According to J.F Ince in his definitive work, there were a total of 24,000 stamps on ordinary paper issued. Cancelled with a light Lagos CDS cancel. The date is not completely clear, but it is either 1904, 1905 or 1906. There is some very minor toning on the back. While it does affect the numeric grade, it is still VF.

Stanley Gibbons values a VF-75 used OG example at 27 pounds = $54.

I have written two blog posts which reviews the points of interest with this issue. You can access the first one here.

The stamp offered here grades VF-80 as follows:

Margins/centering: 44/60

Paper freshness: 1/5

Colour: 5/5

Impression: 5/5

Absence of visible paper flaws: 5/5

Perforations: 10/10

Cancellation: 10/10
