Lagos #30 2d Dull Mauve and Dull Greyish Blue Blue Queen Victoria 1887-1902 Bicoloured Keyplate Issue, A VFOG Example of the First Printing With Specimen Overprint

Sold out

A very fine mint OG example of the 2d dull mauve and pale greyish blue Queen Victoria stamp from the first printing of the 1887-1902 Bicoloured Keyplate Issue, with specimen overprint.  Gibbons only lists one shade combination, which is dull mauve and blue, but in actual fact most of the stamps seen on the market are usually dull mauve and some variation of ultramarine. The earliest printing from 1887 has the head plate printed in deep mauve, while the duty plate is printed in a very distinct shade of dull greyish blue. The UPU specimens produced, at least those produced initially will be from this printing. Gibbons values the specimen overprints at approximately 1.7 times the value of normal stamps. So, the value of this should be approximately 12 pounds ($24).  The stamp offered here grades 75 as follows:

Centering/margins: 45/70

Paper freshness: 5/5

Colour: 5/5

Impression: 5/5

Absence of visible paper flaws: 5/5

Perforations: 10/10
