Lagos #21 1/2d Dull Green Queen Victoria 1887-1902 Bicoloured Keyplate Issue, A VFNH Plate 1 Strip From a Mid-Range Printing

Sold out

An immaculate VFNH (LH in selvage) lower right plate block from the left pane of plate 1 of the 1/2d dull green Queen Victoria stamp from an 1890's printing of the 1887-1902 Bicoloured Keyplate Issue.  The degree of wear in the Queen's hair and diadem of the crown (relatively little) indicates that this comes from a printing made sometime in the early 1890's.  The Gibbons value for this strip is meaningless. A realistic value would be $5 per stamp, with 200% premium for NH and being in the strip, so $60 or so.  The halfpenny and penny values of this issue were printed in 41 and 43 different batches, but 95% of the total printed come from the very last printing made in 1901, and those are generally what you see on the market when you come across either stamp. Any of the earlier printings are scarcer and are worth more than the basic Gibbons price. The strip offered here grades 84 as follows:

Centering/margins: 54/70

Paper freshness: 5/5

Colour: 5/5

Impression: 5/5

Absence of visible paper flaws: 5/5

Perforations: 10/10
