Gambia #63 (SG#84) 2/6d Black and Red on Blue King Edward VII, 1909-1912 Keyplate Issue, a Fine Used Example

Sold out

A fine used example of the 2/6d black and red on blue King Edward VII stamp from the 1909-1912 Keyplate Issue watermarked multiple crown CA.

Forged postmarks do exist on these issues and Gibbons notes three types, one of which is an oval registered cancel dated June 22, 1910. This is a 1910 cancel, so it could be one of the forgeries but the difference between mint and used values are so low (2 pounds) that I don't think this is likely.

Gibbons lists this stamp in fine used for 20 pounds, (approx. $40). The stamp offered here grades 70 as follows:

    Centering/Margins: 30/60

    Paper freshness: 5/5

    Colour: 5/5

    Impression: 5/5

Absence of visible paper flaws: 5/5

    Perforations: 10/10

    Cancellation: 10/10
