Gambia #48 (SG#62) 4d Brown and Ultramarine King Edward VII, 1904-1906 Keyplate Issue, a VF Used Example

Sold out

A very well centered and  very fine used example of the 4d brown and ultramarine King Edward VII stamp from the 1904-1906 Keyplate Issue watermarked multiple crown CA.

Forged postmarks do exist on these issues and Gibbons notes three types, one of which is an oval registered cancel dated June 22, 1910. This is a February cancel, so it is not one of the forged cancels mentioned. So, I think it is good.

Gibbons lists this stamp in fine used for 42 pounds, (approx. $84). Mint catalogues 22 pounds (approx. $44) for reference, just in case there are doubts about the authenticity of the cancel.  The stamp offered here grades 84 as follows:

    Centering/Margins: 44/60

    Paper freshness: 5/5

    Colour: 5/5

    Impression: 5/5

Absence of visible paper flaws: 5/5

    Perforations: 10/10

    Cancellation: 10/10
