A Note About Centering and Perforations on Crown and VR Issues For Fiji

These issues were printed for a time in the UK, but later issues were printed in New South Wales, Australia by the same printers that produced the local stamp issues there. As is the case with New South Wales issues from this period centering is normally very, very poor, with perforations cutting the design on 1 or two sides, and often quite deeply. So, the grading standards for centering are relaxed somewhat in light of this, with VF examples being those that are clear of the perforations on all sides. Fine examples will have the perforations touching the outer framelines on two sides, or just slightly cutting in on 1 side, while VG examples will have the perforations cutting deeply into the design on 1 or 2 sides. Short perforations are also very common on the coarser gauges like 10 and 11.
