Canada McCann #BK81Ah 1977-1982 Floral and Environment Issue, Complete $4.25 Booklet, Smooth DF-fl Coated Abitibi Paper, 13 mm Tab, 4 mm Tagging, Running Letters Cover, Black Wedges on Booklet Tab and Double Punched Perf at Top of Pane - Very Scarce!
A well centered and very fine example of the $4.25 booklet from the 1977-1982 Floral and Environment Issue from the first printings, showing the double punched perfs at the top of the pane and the black wedges on the tab. The contents have the following characteristics:
Paper type: Smooth Coated Abitibi paper
Paper fluorescence: DF with a sparse concentration of LF fibres (reads as DF overall)
Printing method: Engraving and Photogravure
Pane or tab markings: None
Pane or tab width: 13 mm Tab
Label position(s): Lower Left & Left Centre
Tagging type: 4 mm rough Tagging
Printer: British American Bank Note Company
Perforation or die cut: 11.9 x 12.4 Comb
Stamp colours: Green, black and Grey
The wedges on the tab are essentially marginal ink density markers that allow the pressman to check to ensure that enough ink is being transferred to result in a good quality print of the queen's head. On a sheet of stamps these would usually be in the margins and on the booklet sheets they would normally be trimmed off prior to the assembly of the booklet, and indeed they usually were. In a very small number of instances remnants of the markings remain, which is what we are seeing here. They are very scarce with only a few examples turning up in a large stock of booklets that I bought.
The covers display the following characteristics:
Cover fluorescence: Dull Fluorescent
Cover seal type: Unsealed
Cover design: Running letters
Cover markings or type: None
Cover binding type: None, booklet folded along the cover
Counting tab on cover? No
