Canada #85i 2c Grey, Black and Carmine, Mercator Projection 1898 Imperial Penny Postage Issue, a VF Mint NH Example Showing 2 Rows of Dots Through Design, and Extra Islands West of Africa and Between Australia and NZ

Sold out

A well centered and very fine mint NH example of the 2c grey, black and carmine Mercator Projection stamp from the 1898 Imperial Penny Postage Issue. This example shows a variety that I've only seen once before: two rows of small dots running parallel to the lines of latitude just above Mexico and through the southern tip of Mauritus. Note that the last version I saw of this had the other row of dots through the southern tip of Africa. In addition, there are two extra islands: one between Australia and New Zealand, and the other just west of central Africa. Printed on vertical wove paper, with cream gum. Unitrade values this stamp in this grade at $180. The stamp offered here grades 80 as follows:

Centering/margins: 50/70
Paper freshness: 5/5
Colour: 5/5
Impression: 5/5
Absence of visible paper flaws: 5/5
