Canada #434 1964 Christmas Issue, Scarce Single Usage on Surface Cover to Amsterdam, Netherlands
An inconspicuous, but interersting surface cover to the Neherlands, franked with a single 3c Chiristmas stamp, sent December 21, 1964. What is interesting about this is that the surface rate to Europe would normally be 5 cents. Although Canada Post did offer preferential rates during the Christmas season for local mail, I am not aware of this extending to foreign mailings as well, though it may have, and this cover certainly seems to suggest this, as it was sealed. I had considered the possibility that this might have gone as a printed matter item, but it cannot have, as the cover was sealed, and printed matter rate requires the flap to be left unsealed. This is the first such cover I have seen.
Est $10.
