Canada #37 3c Orange Red Queen Victoria, 1870-1897 Small Queen Issue, Mid Montreal Printing on Horizontal Wove Paper a Fine Unused Strip of 3 Showing Damage to the Plate

Sold out

A fresh and fine unused strip of 3 of the mid-Montreal printing of the 3c orange red Queen Victoria stamp from the 1870-1897 Small Queen Issue, showing considerable damage to the plate.  The damage shows in the form of a very patchy appearance to the printing. This strip likely dates from before 1880, as all three stamps show a characteristic position dot at lower left. What is interesting is the perf., which is 12.25 - normally only seen on the very late Montreal's from the late 1880's. Unitrade values a F-65 OG strip at $180, so an unused strip should be worth approximately half of this, or $90. The stamp offered here grades 70 as follows:

Centering/margins: 40/70

Paper freshness: 5/5

Colour: 5/5

Impression: 5/5

Absence of visible paper flaws: 5/5

Perforations: 10/10
