Canada #347i 4c Deep Violet Queen Elizabeth II, 1954-1962 Wilding Issue, A Fine NH Coil Jump Strip on Dull Fluorescent Grayish White Vertical Ribbed Paper
A fine centered and NH jump strip of 5 of the 4c deep violet Queen Elizabeth II coil stamp from the 1954-1962 Wilding Issue, printed on a dull fluorescent vertical ribbed, horizontal wove paper, with smooth cream gum with a semi-gloss sheen. The jump occurs between the second and third stamps.
On this issue the paper used for printing the coil stamps mirrors that used for the sheet stamps, and the early printings are on horizontally ribbed paper. Later printings are on a smooth, horizontal wove paper that often shows light vertical ribbing. This ribbing can either be present on the print side of the paper, or on the gummed side. It is this later paper on which most of the listed fluorescent varieties are found. Most of the smooth papers are dull fluorescent under UV, but the colour of the reaction can vary quite widely, from a bright bluish white to a deeper violet reaction. The paper on this strip gives a dull fluorescent grayish white reaction under UV light, and is vertically ribbed horizontal wove paper.
Unitrade lists this strip at $12 in the VF grade, so fine is generally worth $6. The strip offered here grades F-70 as follows:
Paper freshness: 5/5
Absence of visible paper flaws: 5/5
