Canada #34 1/2c Black Queen Victoria 1870-1897 Small Queen Issue a VG Used Example of the Late Montreal Printing, Perf. 12, With Unlisted "Printing Void" Variety
A very good used example of the late Montreal printing of the 1/2c black Queen Victoria stamp from the 1870-1897 Small Queen Issue, showing an unlisted "printing void flaw on the Queen's neck". Perf. 12. and printed on the soft vertical wove paper.
The printing void consists of a large area of missing ink at the lower part of the neck at left. I've considered the possibility of this being a surface scrape, but I dipped the stamp in watermark fluid, and there was no darkening of the design in the area, so I can rule that out. The stamp has a light diagonal crease that reduces the grade from fine to VG. Not listed in Unitrade, but a reasonable value would be $20.
The stamp offered here grades 55 as follows:
Paper freshness: 5/5
Absence of visible paper flaws: 5/5
Adjustment for light crease: -10 points
