Canada #14 (possibly 14ii) 1c Rose, Queen Victoria, 1859-1864 Cents Issue, Perf. 12, A Beautiful VF Mint OG Example, The Best We Have Ever Offered!
A beautifully centered and fresh mint example of this scarce classic stamp, with full original gum that has been disturbed at some point, by being stuck to 2 other stamps, as can be seen from the back scan. I have examined the gum and can offer the following observations:
- It is the same colour and sheen as what I have seen on other certified examples from this issue as well as the contemporary New Brunswick and Nova Scotia issues that were also printed by the ABN.
- The perforation tips feel soft to the touch and under magnification do not have any gum residue on them.
Based on these two observations, I conclude that the stamp does indeed have OG. It is perforated 12 all around also. There is some ink flaking that occurred during printing, and while this does affect the numeric grade ever so slightly, it does not take it below a solid VF example.
This is the first example of this high quality that I have had the pleasure of offering. The paper also feels thick, but that may be because of the gum, so while it is possible that it might be a 14ii, I think it is more likely to be a #14.
Unitrade values a VF OG example of #14 at $1,500.00 and 14ii at $3,750. The stamp offered here grades 82 as follows.
Paper freshness: 5/5
Absence of visible paper flaws: 5/5
