Canada #18ii 12.5c Deep Green Queen Victoria 1859-1867 First Cents Issue, a VF Used Example on Stout Wove Paper, Perf. 12 x 11.75

Sold out

A beautifully centered and very fine used example of the 12.5c deep green Queen Victoria Chalon head stamp from the 1859-1867 First Cents Issue.  Perf. 11.75 x 12, on stout wove paper with no clear mesh.  This is comes from one of the early printings made before 1861. The margins at the top just touch the outer frameline in one spot at upper right, but are clear everywhere else and nicely balanced. For this issue, that is solid VF centering. Nice crisp grid cancel, leaves the design clear and visible. This is one of the nicest #18's I have offered to date.

Unitrade values a VF used example at $220. The stamp offered here grades 78 as follows:

Centering/margins: 40/60

Paper freshness: 5/5

Colour: 5/5

Impression: 5/5

Absence of visible paper flaws: 5/5

Perforations: 8/10

Cancellation: 10/10

Note: on this issue Unitrade uses relative grading, due to the poor centering on the issue in general. So what I would grade as VG will be F in Unitrade. What I would grade as F will be VF and what I would grade as VF would be superlative, and well over the Unitrade value for VF. So to avoid confusion I have altered my grading to correspond to Unitrade's grading scale on this issue only.
