Canada #14viii 1c Rose Queen Victoria 1859-1867 First Cents Issue, a Very Fine Used Example, Perf. 12 x 11.75

Sold out

A well centered and reasonably centered and very fine used example of the 1c rose Queen Victoria stamp from the 1859-1867 First Cents Issue.  Perf. 12 x 11.75, on stout wove paper with no clear mesh.  This is comes from one of the intermediate printings made between 1861 and 1864. Moderate grid cancel.

Unitrade values a very fine used example at $125. The stamp offered here grades 76 as follows:

Centering/margins: 40/60

Paper freshness: 5/5

Colour: 5/5

Impression: 5/5

Absence of visible paper flaws: 5/5

Perforations: 8/10

Cancellation: 8/10

Note: on this issue Unitrade uses relative grading, due to the poor centering on the issue in general. So what I would grade as VG will be F in Unitrade. What I would grade as F will be VF and what I would grade as VF would be superlative, and well over the Unitrade value for VF. So to avoid confusion I have altered my grading to correspond to Unitrade's grading scale on this issue only.
