Canada #1522 88c Multicoloured Cycling, 1994 Commonwealth Games Issue a VFNH Example Showing Most of the Gold Inscription Missing
A very well centered and very fine NH example of the 88c cycling stamp from the 1994 Commonwealth Games Issue, showing the gold "Canada 88" Inscription almost completely missing. The embossed impression is present, as is a very thin outline of the letters and numbers, but at least 70-80% of the gold that should be present is missing, and there is no evidence at all that the stamp has been tampered with in any way - no evidence of the gold being dissolved, no erasure marks - nothing. Unitrade does list this stamp with the gold completely omitted and I think it very likely is a transitional error, like many of the colour omitted errors, in which the colour is gradually omitted from all the stamps in a row or column, until the last few stamps are completely missing the gold. This would appear to be an example from one of the later stages of this error, in which the gold is almost completely missing, but not entirely missing.
Unitrade does not list this error in this state exactly, but the gold completely missing lists for $2,500. Consequently we would estimate this to be somewhere between $350 and $550. The stamp offered here grades 84 as follows:
Paper freshness: 5/5
Absence of visible paper flaws: 5/5
