Australia #256-258 (SG#261-262b) 1d Purple - 6.5d Orange Queen Elizabeth II, 1953-1954 Definitive Issue, Three Fine and VFNH Gutter Pairs
Three fine and very fine NH gutter pairs of the 1d purple, 3d deep grey green and 6.5d orange Queen Elizabeth II stamps from the 1953-1954 definitive issue, on the unwatermarked papers.
The sheets of stamps issued during this time were comprised of panes that were separated by gutters that contained a pair of parallel lines. Usually these gutters are folded, as this was how the sheets were stored. Usually the gutters were thrown away. The 1d and 6.5d pairs have the gutter in between and the 3d has it on the left side. The gutters are lightly folded in all three cases.
Gibbons lists the singles at 4.20 pounds (approx. $8.20) for VFNH, but the pairs should be worth a premium. The pairs offered here grade between 70 and 80 as follows:
Centering/Margins 40/70 and 50/70
Paper freshness: 5/5
Absence of visible paper flaws: 5/5
