Three very fine NH singles of the 6c scarlet and bright scarlet Lester Pearson stamps from the 1973-1977 Caricature Issue, each printed on a different DF paper. General OP-2 Ottawa tagging, 4 mm wide, of light strength (barely visible to the naked eye), and moderate strength (clearly visible to the naked eye, but not dark), and glowing a bright yellow under ultraviolet light. The paper gives different reactions under UV light and displays different physical characteristics as follows:
- A bright scarlet stamp is on a vertical wove paper with a burnished smooth surface texture. Under UV light, the paper gives a dull fluorescent greyish white reaction on the front and back, with a very sparse concentration of low fluorescent fibres, and a very sparse concentration of brownish woodpulp fibres visible in the paper. Tagging is of moderate strength and the gum is smooth PVA with a satin sheen.
- A bright scarlet stamp is on vertical wove paper with a burnished smooth surface texture. Under UV light the paper gives a dull fluorescent bluish white reaction on the front and back, with a very sparse concentration of medium flurescent fibres and a very sparse concentration of brownish woodpulp fibres visible in the paper. Tagging is of light strength and the gum is creamy PVA with a satin sheen.
- The scarlet stamp is on vertical wove paper that shows clear horizontal ribbing on the printed surface. Under UV light, the paper gives a dull fluorescent greyish reaction on the front, and a low fluorescent bluish white reaction on the back. The tagging is of light strength and the gum is white PVA with an eggshell sheen.
Comb perforated 12.0 x 12.5. Unitrade values three VF-75 NH singles at $0.85. The stamps offered here grade 75 as follows: Margins/centering: 45/70 Paper freshness: 5/5 Colour: 5/5 Impression: 5/5 Absence of visible paper flaws: 5/5 Perforations: 10/10 Note: the above scan is a stock photo as are all my scans for material after 1952. The item(s) you will receive has (have) been carefully checked to adhere to the above grading standards, so while it (they) may not be exactly the same, it (they) will be of the same quality. Also, I do not provide back scans of NH stamps or blocks after 1952 unless they are required to illustrate some attribute of the paper or gum.
