Canada #590iii (SG#697) 5c Rose Lilac Bennett 1972-1978 Caricature Issue MF Paper Plate 1 LL VF-84 NH
A very well centered and very fine NH plate 1 lower left block of the 5c rose lilac Richard Bennett stamp from the 1973-1977 Caricature Issue on the so called MF paper. Printed on vertical wove paper showing no ribbing on either the front or back. The paper gives a low fluorescent bluish reaction under ultraviolet light on the face and back, with a low density concentration of both low and medium fluorescent fibres, visible in the paper. This gives it an overall MF appearance that is much brighter than any of the 13+ varieties of low fluorescent paper that I have identified in my study of thousands of mint singles from this issue. General OP-2 Ottawa tagging, 4 mm wide, of moderate strength (clearly visible to the naked eye, but not dark), and glowing a bright yellow under ultraviolet light. Comb perforated 12.0 x 12.5, with the selvage fully perforated through in both directions. Smooth, creamy PVA gum with an eggshell sheen. Unitrade values a VF-75 NH blank field stock block at $40, and does not price plate blocks. The block offered here grades 84 as follows: Margins/centering: 54/70 Paper freshness: 5/5 Colour: 5/5 Impression: 5/5 Absence of visible paper flaws: 5/5 Perforations: 10/10 Note: the above scan is a stock photo as are all my scans for material after 1952. The item(s) you will receive has (have) been carefully checked to adhere to the above grading standards, so while it (they) may not be exactly the same, it (they) will be of the same quality. Also, I do not provide back scans of NH stamps or blocks after 1952 unless they are required to illustrate some attribute of the paper or gum.
