Canada #586xxii (SG#693) 1c Macdonald 1972-1978 Caricature Issue Precancel Horizontal Ribbed Type 1 Tagging Flaw Pair VF-75 NH
A very fine NH pair of the 1c orange Sir John A. Macdonald stamp from the 1973-1977 Caricature Issue, showing a tagging flaw on the left stamp. Printed horizontal wove paper showing clear horizontal ribbing on the face and giving the following reactions under UV light:
- On the Front: Non-fluorescent greyish.
- On the Back: Low fluorescent bluish white.
General OP-2 Ottawa tagging, 4 mm wide, of moderate strength (clearly visible to the naked eye, but not dark), and glowing deep bright yellow under ultraviolet light. A large blob of taggant has gotten onto MacDonald's throat on the left stamp. Comb perforated 12.0 x 12.5. Very scarce, as I only found this variety on position 75 on one sheet, out of over 40 sheets. Smooth, creamy PVA gum with a satin sheen. Unitrade lists the horizontal ribbed paper as being DF/LF, which does exist, but this is clearly NF on the face, which is not listed. The more common DF/LF paper lists a VF-75 NH single at $0.40. But tagging flaws on this issue, or any modern Canadian issue are scarce and the price of this pair reflects that scarcity. The pair offered here grades 75 as follows:
Margins/centering: 45/70 Paper freshness: 5/5 Colour: 5/5 Impression: 5/5 Absence of visible paper flaws: 5/5 Perforations: 10/10 Note: the above scan is a stock photo as are all my scans for material after 1952.The item (s) you will receive has (have) been carefully checked to adhere to the above grading standards, so while it (they) may not be exactly the same, it (they) will be of the same quality. Also, I do not provide back scans of NH stamps or blocks after 1952 unless they are required to illustrate some attribute of the paper or gum.
