Canada #321 (SG#446) $1 Slate Grey Totem Pole 1953 Karsh Issue Ribbed Paper VF-84 NH
A very well centered and very fine NH single of the $1 slate grey Pacific Coast Totem Pole stamp from the 1953 Karsh Issue. This shade is mid-way between the slate shade which is more bluish and the grey shade which is more charcoal. The scan at the right shows the slate and the grey shades together for comparison purposes only. Printed on off-white horizontal wove paper showing clear but not strong ribbing and giving a dull reaction under ultraviolet light. Shiny and smooth yellowish cream coloured gum. Unitrade values a VF-75 NH single at $10. But stamps of this period grading over VF-80 are much more difficult to find as the stamps were line perforated. The stamp offered here grades 84 as follows:
Paper freshness: 5/5
Absence of visible paper flaws: 5/5
Note: the above scan is a stock photo as are all my scans for material after 1952.The item (s) you will receive has (have) been carefully checked to adhere to the above grading standards, so while it (they) may not be exactly the same, it (they) will be of the same quality. Also, I do not provide back scans of NH stamps or blocks after 1952 unless they are required to illustrate some attribute of the paper of gum.
