Canada #239 (SG#369) 2c Reddish Brown 1937-1942 Mufti Issue Coil Strip SUP-98 NH

A nearly perfectly centered and superb NH strip of 4 of the 2c reddish brown King George VI coil stamp from the 1937-42 Mufti Issue. Printed on vertical wove paper with very light vertical ribbing visible on the gum, no visible mesh, and with smooth, deep cream gum that has a satin sheen. Line perf. 8 vertically. The spacing between stamp impressions in the strip is 3.75 mm, which is a little narrower than the standard spacing of 4 mm. Although not mentioned in Unitrade, the coil stamps of this issue exist with at least 3 different paper and gum type combinations, and there are at least two different shades of each value. The paper varies according to the direction of the weave (horizontal versus vertical) and the direction and visibility of the mesh. The gum varies in colour and sheen. In my opinion these varieties are every bit as collectible as perforation and shade varieties on the other issues. The scans under "more images” show the various gum and paper types in more detail. Unitrade values a VF-75 NH strip at $45.00. While reasonably well centered strips are not too difficult to locate, strips that are this close to perfection, with full and even perforations on both sides are very, very scarce, and worth considerably more than the Unitrade price for VF. The strip is lightly folded between the third and fourth stamps, but this is mentioned for accuracy only, and does not detract. Our pricing reflects the scarcity of this level of quality. This is the perfect strip for the most fastidious collector who seeks only the very best available quality. The strip offered here grades SUP-98 NH as follows:

Margins/centering: 68/70

Paper freshness: 5/5

Colour: 5/5

Impression: 5/5

Absence of visible paper flaws: 5/5

Perforations: 10/10
