Canada #229 (SG#353) 2c Deep Brown King George V 1935-1937 Dated Die Issue Coil SUP-98 LH

A nearly perfectly centered and superb mint OG single of the 2c deep brown King George V coil stamp from the 1935-37 Dated Die Issue. Printed on horizontal wove paper with light ribbing visible on the gum side, and clear vertical mesh visible in strong back lighting, and with smooth cream gum, that has a satin sheen. Although not mentioned in Unitrade, the coil stamps of this issue exist with at least 4 different paper and gum type combinations, and there are at least two different shades of each value. The paper varies according to the direction of the weave (horizontal versus vertical) and the direction and visibility of the mesh. The gum varies in colour and sheen. In my opinion these varieties are every bit as collectible as perforation and shade varieties on the other issues. The scans under "more images” show the various gum and paper types in more detail, as well as the shades. Perf. 8 vertical. Unitrade values a VF-75 OG single at $25. However, these stamps are notoriously difficult to find with full and even perforations, due to the coarse gauge, as well as difficult to find this close to perfectly centered. Our price reflects this scarcity. This is a perfect stamp for the collector who seeks to assemble a superb set, one superb stamp at a time. The stamp offered here grades SUP-98 OG as follows:

Margins/centering: 68/70

Paper freshness: 5/5

Colour: 5/5

Impression: 5/5

Absence of visible paper flaws: 5/5

Perforations: 10/10
