Canada #228 (SG#352) 1c Deep Bright Green King George V Coil 1935-1937 Dated Die Issue XF-94 OG
A nearly perfectly centered and extremely fine OG example of the 1c deep bright green King George V coil stamp from the 1935-37 Dated Die Issue. Printed on horizontal wove paper with no visible mesh, and with smooth deep cream gum, that has a semi-gloss sheen. Although not mentioned in Unitrade, the coil stamps of this issue has at least 4 different paper and gum type combinations, and there are at least two different shades of each value. The paper varies according to the direction of the weave (horizontal versus vertical) and the direction and visibility of the mesh. The gum varies in colour and sheen. In my opinion these varieties are every bit as collectible as perforation and shade varieties on the other issues. The scans under "more images” show the various gum and paper types in more detail. Perf. 8 vertical. Unitrade values a VF-75 OG single at $20. However, stamps grading VF-84 or higher are very, very scarce, and the scarcity increases as the grade approaches GEM-100. Our price reflects the scarcity of this quality. The stamp offered here grades XF-94 OG as follows:
Paper freshness: 5/5
Absence of visible paper flaws: 5/5
