Canada #227i (SG#351) $1 Prussian Blue Champlain Monument 1935-1937 Dated Die Issue F-73 OG
A fine mint OG example of the $1 Prussian blue Champlain Monument stamp from the 1935-37 Dated Die Issue. Printed on vertical wove paper with no visible mesh and with smooth deep yellowish cream gum that has a semi-gloss sheen. Although not mentioned in Unitrade, this issue has at least 8 different paper and gum type combinations and this stamp exists in at least 7 different shades of blue. The paper varies according to the direction of the weave (horizontal versus vertical) and the direction and visibility of the mesh. The gum varies in colour and sheen. In my opinion these varieties are every bit as collectible as perforation and shade varieties on the other issues. The scans under "more images” show the various gum and paper types in more detail as well as all shades. Line perf. 12.0. There is a light diagonal bend affecting the lower left corner, which does not break the paper and is not immediately noticeable. It reduces the grade from VF-78 to F-73. Unitrade values a F-65 OG single at $45. The stamp offered here grades F-73 OG as follows:
Paper freshness: 3/5
Absence of visible paper flaws: 5/5
Adjustment for light corner bend: - 5 points
