Canada #227 (SG#351) $1 Steel Blue Champlain Monument 1935-1937 Dated Die Issue VF-84 NH

$83.99
SKU 227VF84NH2

A very well centered and very fine mint NH example of the $1 steel blue Champlain Monument stamp from the 1935-37 Dated Die Issue. Printed on vertical wove paper with coarse horizontal mesh being visible, and with smooth, deep yellowish cream gum that has a satin sheen. Although not mentioned in Unitrade, this issue has at least 8 different paper and gum type combinations and this stamp exists in at least 7 different shades of blue. The paper varies according to the direction of the weave (horizontal versus vertical) and the direction and visibility of the mesh. The gum varies in colour and sheen. In my opinion these varieties are every bit as collectible as perforation and shade varieties on the other issues. The scans under "more images" show the various gum and paper types in more detail as well as all shades. Line perf. 12.0. There are a few light fingerprints on the gum, but otherwise it is post office fresh and NH. Unitrade values a VF-75 NH single at $135. The stamp offered here grades VF-84 NH as follows:

Margins/centering: 54/70

Paper freshness: 5/5

Colour: 5/5

Impression: 5/5

Absence of visible paper flaws: 5/5

Perforations: 10/10
